Toshiba claims another first in their long list of achievements, this time around with the NPEngine which is capable of streaming video content from SSD to IP networks. This particular feat is to be showcased in a demonstration server at the NAB show. The beauty of the NPEngine is its ability to deliver video content from SSD to IP networks without having to access the server’s CPU or memory resources, hence freeing up the server to perform other tasks while keeping other people who want to watch videos happy. Just how efficient is the NPEngine? Well, it is capable of simultaneously delivering up to 64,000 high quality video streams at a rate of 40Gigabit per sec, which is far more than what the standard server is capable of at this point in time.

Not only that, since the server’s load is reduced in terms of processing power as well as memory allocation, this would indirectly result in a reduction of power consumption, in addition to the required number of servers and the space. NPEngine will also play nice with the latest HTTP adaptive bit rate streaming without the need for modification of any sorts in current HTTP streaming applications. [Press Release]
