I remember back in the days where cellphones were extremely rare, and even those in existence were large enough to function as those hammers used to crack the shells of crabs when you are indulging in a little bit of seafood. As for smartphones and tablets, they were not even invented just yet. Pagers, however, are a very different thing, as it proved to be hugely popular in getting the attention of the pager’s owner. Doctors had one with them all the time, and folks who were heavily involved in betting used them to receive the latest lottery and horse racing results, while news addicts who did not yet have the advantage of Google News could always receive the latest headlines via their pagers. Microsoft’s attempt at an April Fool’s joke resulted in the Windows Pager – with a release date of 2014, “give or take a few months”. Definitely not too amusing, and it lacks the panache of what Sony, Skype and Google has rolled out so far.
