It is a no brainer that Apple, the company who brought the world the iPhone back in 2007, will definitely want just about anything and every single domain name that has to do with the iPhone brand, and squatters who think that they might be able to squeeze a quick buck out of Apple would have to think twice. I do admit that Apple did a bang up job when it came to the naming convention of the third generation iPad, calling it the new iPad instead of the iPad 3, going against the grain in the process. As for the next generation iPhone, will it be the iPhone 5, or will Apple introduce a reboot to the naming convention by calling it the new iPhone? What we do know is this – Apple recently filed a claim with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in order to have control of the iPhone5.com domain.

At the moment, WIPO authorities are looking into the compliance of Apple’s claim with the agency’s regulations, and one cannot but expect proceedings to be initiated sometime down the road. As this moment, the iPhone5.com domain holds a very tiny discussion forum that obviously, has been dedicated discuss about nothing else but the “iPhone 5”. The forum was launched in October a couple of years ago after the iPhone 4 debuted, making me wonder whether anyone else has purchased iPhone6.com or not.
