Archos has just rolled out its special developer edition software for its range of Gen9 Android-powered tablets, and among the “luminaries” would include the Archos 80 G9 and Archos 101 G9 tablets. It must be noted that earlier SDE firmware releases were based on Angstrom Linux, while the SDE software for the Gen9 tablets is more or less a tool which developers flash custom kernels or ROMs onto the tablets themselves. This software will target developers squarely, so if you are part of the general public populace, you might want to give it a miss instead. After all, installation of the SDE firmware will send your warranty to the nether regions, and it will also stop the Archos tablets from playing media files which come with DRM (Digital Rights Management) protection. The upside to it? You will be able to have better control over your Gen9 tablet, in addition to letting you create a multiboot system which is capable of running more than just a singular operating system, not to mention paving the way for you to export your data partition or remove the Android Kernel.
