A couple of days ago, we reported to you about the rumors of a miniature 7.85-inch iPad allegedly in the works. As much as we are excited about it, apparently there was no proof that it actually existed. We were about to debunk the rumor today when we heard that the Taiwan-based Liberty Times report that both LG and AU Optronics have been certified to supply the LCD panel for the purported iPad “Mini”. The publication also said that both manufacturers are working to prepare to ship the panels for production, with a scheduled release in the latter half of this year.

If this is indeed true, then this will add more proof to previous rumors that an iPad mini will be launching in October this year. 9to5Mac says that TPK Holding will be producing 4 million backlight modules, and that Chemi Innolux will be producing 2 million. Nissha Printing is also reported to be the one responsible for the device’s touch film sensors. Based on previous rumors, it’s been claimed that the 7.85-inch iPad Mini will basically be a shrunken down version of the iPad and will not be redesigned. Again, until we hear something viable from Apple, let’s add a pinch of salt into the rumor mill.
