Microsoft’s foray into the video game console market was originally marked with skepticism, as many were wondering just how they were going to compete with the likes of Nintendo, Sony as well as Sega. Well, the first Xbox proved to be a hit in its domestic market, although it did not do too well internationally, but I would say that the Xbox 360 has proved to have more international appeal compared to its predecessor, and according to Microsoft, they have sold more than 67 million Xbox 360 consoles ever since it was launched back in 2005. Man, has it been 7 years already? I guess that an overhaul is due any time now, but some say there are at least three more years to go for the Xbox 360 before it needs a new generation to tickle the imagination and fancy of gamers worldwide.

Raking up over $56 billion in retail sales from the console itself, Yusuf Mehdi, the CMO of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Division, claims that the Xbox 360 currently sits pretty in the US with a 47% share of the current-generation console market, at least according to the NPD Group. No idea on global figures though. Do you own both the PS3 and Xbox 360, or are you an exclusive person who relies on just one piece of hardware?
