We know that famed iOS hacker pod2g and his team of developers have been hard at work at trying to give iOS users running on iOS 5.1 an untethered jailbreak solution. So far based on their progress, it seems that they are quite close to finally achieving it – or have they already? Pod2g recently tweeted that he managed to achieve an untethered jailbreak on a third-generation iPad device running on iOS 5.1, saying, “Hey. iPad 3,1 running iOS 5.1 untethered. Next on the list: stabilizing the payload, then trying 5.1.1.”

Given that an untethered iOS 5.1 jailbreak has been achieved on the third-gen iPad, safe to say that whenever pod2g releases the jailbreak to the public, it should play nicely with pretty much any iOS device running on iOS 5.1. No word on when he plans to release it, so in the mean time check out the video above where he demonstrates the untethered jailbreak on a third-gen iPad, and also be sure to check back with us at a later date for more updates about the release of the jailbreak.
