So robots like Honda’s Asimo is able to run, walk, kick a ball, and even climb stairs, which is no mean feat for a two-legged robot, but what are some of the other athletic robots out there that do not travel on just wheels? Robotic fish have been seen in the past, but those were designed after real world fish for their aerodynamic format, and boats do not count as robots when it comes to cutting through bodies of water in a jiffy. Enter the Swumanoid (Swimming Humanoid in full), where it will reproduce a swimmer’s whole-body motion faithfully while embedded sensors measure water resistance.

The Swumanoid is able to perform to the dot how researchers want it to, so that repeated tests as well as slight adjustments made might just unlock better swimsuit design, as more and more about water resistance and propulsion are understood. Not only that, one can fit the robot with a swimsuit in order to determine its impact, so that a superior swimwear that enhances performance can be produced for the mass market. Neat, no?
