We’ve had plenty of robots that have been inspired by animals before and here we’ve got another inspired by the lizard. Strangely named DynaRoach, this six-legged robot has the ability to run on soft sand at high speeds. While weighing 25 grams and measuring 10 cm long, it can reach a top speed of 1.8kmh – slower than regular desert lizards, but a pretty impressive feat nevertheless, considering how the robot has to travel on such unstable ground.

At the moment there are no uses for such a robot, but scientists hope that its technology can lead to the creation of rovers that can traverse similar terrain while exploring Martian planets. Check out the video demonstration of the DynaRoach above.
