They say that there is no free lunch in this world, but I guess that there is such a thing as free product APIs, as in the case of Scandit who is offering a free product API as well as barcode scanner SDK to those who are interested. Basically, this would mean free access to the largest UPC-based product database of its kind that holds more than 25 million products, now how about that? This database can be accessed through the new Product API, and will be accompanied by a free version of the barcode scanner SDK that will be able to support UPC/EAN/QR scanning. The special combination of a product data API and a free barcode scanning SDK will result in a lower bar of entry for developers of product-centric m-commerce and m-payment apps.
