Android multi usersIf you like the idea of sharing one Android device between a few people (i.e. your housemates or your family) but don’t want them messing with your settings or apps you’re in luck. It looks like we’ll be getting multi-user support on Android sometime in the future. The folks over at Android Police have been doing some digging in the Android source code and according to them, there are “miles of code” hinting at multi-user support.

However, not everything is 100% working or even working at all, which shows that it’s still a work in progress and we might not be seeing it anytime soon. But when it finally goes live, we should have support for multiple user lock screens, installed apps, running apps, app data, default apps, home screen widgets, accounts, syncing and language.

While there have been apps that already provide multi-user access on Android right now (i.e. SwitchMe), root access is required and it isn’t free to use for the full version. Native support for multi-users in Android will make it easier to set up and be more accessible for all users. What do you think of multi-user support in Android? Do any of you use 3rd party apps to get the job done now?
