When it comes to the world of smartphones, admit it – the name ZTE would not be right at the top of your list, and some of you might not have even heard of the company before. Well, fret not – ZTE intends to make sure that they are going to light up the world of smartphones, having just announced the ZTE Grand X which will retail for £189.99 as a prepaid device. This announcement came about at the 24 Club in London, where ZTE made sure that the world (or at least across the pond in Olympic city) is aware of the imminent arrival of the Grand X, which is powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 chipset. Will the ZTE Grand X be able to live up to expectations as a portable gaming device which doubles up as a smartphone? Perhaps, but past experience has showed that even a big name like Nokia and their N-Gage project failed to eat into the PSP and Nintendo DSL’s markets.

Virgin Media is offering the ZTE Grand X for £189.99 a pop, while you can also pick it up on low price contracts as well. Other features include Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 4.3″ qHD display, a 5-megapixel camera, a front facing VGA camera, Dolby Sound, HD video capture capability and HD voice support.
