So Amazon will be holding an event today where presumably they will be showing off new Kindle e-readers and Kindle Fire devices, but according to The Verge’s sources, it seems that we could be in for a surprise. So far Amazon has released Kindle e-readers and the Kindle Fire Android tablet, and many expect that these products will be refreshed later today, so that can hardly be called a surprise. What could prove to be a surprise is the rumor that Amazon could be unveiling an Android smartphone of their own!

As it stands, the phone is reportedly unfinished which means that we could get a glimpse of how it looks like but we’ll probably not be able to try it out. Either that or the phone will be announced but no photos will be available. Word has it that the phone will run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and is expected to come with Nokia Maps which is an interesting twist. Surprisingly there hasn’t been any word about such a device until today so if it is true, kudos to Amazon for managing to keep a pretty tight lid on things! In any case we’ll find out if these rumors are true in a few hours, so check back with us later for the details!
