China-based ZTE has, on paper, a power packed smartphone in the pipeline, but it seems as though it will be released in China only without any outward sign that a US rollout is imminent. The hardware specifications do pack a punch at first glance, with the Grand Era U985 running on a quad-core Tegra 3 processor, where it is accompanied by a 4.5″ 720p display alongside an 8-megapixel camera located at the back. Since it will be released in China, the ZTE Grand Era U985 smartphone will support local TD-SCDMA networks.
According to ZTE, they say that the Grand Era U985 is the slimmest quad-core smartphone, but extravagant claims need to be inspected closer, and if you were to take the ZTE Grand Era U985 at its slimmest point, then 7.9mm would beat out the rest of the field, but bear in mind that it has an all-round 8.6 mm thickness across its body. Legalists would say that the LG Optimus G wins hands down with an all-round thickness of a mere 8.45mm. There is no word on pricing just yet. [Press Release]
