At the end of last month, we took a look at rumors surrounding the LG Optimus G Nexus which claim that it could very well be the next Nexus device, and here we are with more information from an anonymous source on how hardware manufacturers can qualify for the “Nexus program” – for starters, they need to use stock Android and 64MB of secure memory for media streaming. There will be allowances made for custom user interface skins, as well as additional hardware requirements to ensure that the Nexus family can support Android 5.0 that is tipped to arrive by Fall next year. It does sound legitimate to us, as it would be pretty embarrassing for a flagship device to be unable to be updated to the next version of the Android operating system due to inefficiencies in its hardware configuration.
Having said that, we still wonder whether there will be multiple Nexus devices down the road, and we have a feeling that this is definitely going to be a distinct possibility by all accounts and purposes. After all, Google does not really lose out when companies clamor for the right to churn out flagship Nexus devices, in fact, it will help raise the profile of the Android platform even further.
