With the introduction of the Nexus 7 and the Nexus 10, there are many who believe that these are the Android tablets with the capability of dethroning Apple’s iPad from a position they held for many years. While it might take a while before we actually see any dethroning, it certainly looks like there are signs of it starting to happen. In a recent report published by the IDC, it was revealed that shipments of iPads slowed in the third quarter of 2012, while Android tablets actually saw some gain. However the slowed down in shipping of iPads is speculated to be because many would-be customers were holding out for the iPad mini.

There is a chance that Apple could be making a comeback in Q4, but with reports of the iPad mini’s debut being somewhat underwhelming, perhaps there is a chance that Android tablet manufacturers will finally be able to play catch up. We guess we will have to wait and see, but in the meantime what do you guys think? Does Apple’s iPad mini and its fourth-gen iPad have what it takes to help maintain their position, or will Google’s Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets prove to be worthy competitors?
