Microsoft isn’t just concerned about making great products and raking in tons of money. The technology giant is also a generous benefactor to non-profit organizations. In October this year, Microsoft announced that its employee giving program, which started 30 years ago, has already reached $1 billion. That’s just one among many donations Microsoft has given over the past years. Today, Microsoft is announcing that it is donating $250 million to its Microsoft Partners in Learning program, bringing Microsoft’s total investment to $750 million.
Microsoft’s Partners in Learning program aims to improve teacher skills by providing resources to improve student readiness in the classroom. The end goal will be to recruit 20 million teachers worldwide by 2018. “So many of us have a great teacher to thank for our achievements,” said Bill Gates, the Chairman of Microsoft. “That’s why I am so proud that Microsoft Partners in Learning continues to support innovative teachers. We started this program nearly 10 years ago based on the belief that education is a fundamental human right and the single most important investment in our collective future. This has never been more true, and I’m really pleased to see the continuing commitment to innovations that can help all students and teachers reach their full potential.”
