Google’s Project Glass certainly wowed the crowds when it was first unveiled officially to everyone at Google I/O earlier this year, but even the developer kit itself cost the better part of one grand and above, making it not exactly accessible to the masses as an impulse purchase. Well, other players do seem to want in on the game as well, and it is not surprising to hear of Microsoft being one of them. In fact, Microsoft has already filed patent applications for its own version of Project Glass, and these patents have just been published recently. There is one major difference between Google’s approach and Microsoft’s, where the former is meant to be worn always throughout the day, even when you are on the move, while Microsoft wants their version to be worn only at special events such as concerts and sports games.

Microsoft’s glasses are able to beam text and audio overlays so that those will add to a new dimension to what you are watching in real life, and in real time, too. I guess what Microsoft is doing is to roll out an augmented reality device that will do far better than what a pair of headphones or a smartphone with an AR software is capable of. Nothing out of the ordinary, and it remains to be seen whether it can take off in a big way or not.
