Archos is a name that we should all be familiar with when it comes to portable media players, and in recent times, Android-powered tablets. Having said that, Archos has just announced the availability of its video player application to a slew of Android devices which are powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich at the very least. This Archos video player app is said to deliver an uncompromised multimedia experience, and for those of us who picked it up from the Google Play store already, it will bring hardware accelerated video decoding support, the ability to play just about content from any computer/network storage in your local network (SMB and UPnP) or from an external USB storage device.

Apart from that, there is also the automatic online retrieval of movie and TV show information with poster and backdrop feature – regardless of whether it is via a local or network content. The asking price for the Archos video player app stands at $4.99, which does sound as though it makes life a whole lot easier for the price of a snack.
