Facebook has not exactly been the quickest kid on the block to jump aboard the monetization train, but perhaps things are going to change for them. We have word from The Verge that Facebook is working to monetize one of their more marquee purchases in recent times, that is, the photo service that millions of people use each day – Instagram. Facebook VP of Global Marketing Solutions Carolyn Everson did confirm that there will be a degree of monetization in Instagram in due time, although the folks over at Facebook have yet to figure out just what kind of form that will take. Everson mentioned, “There are many brands that use Instagram right now to try to get a feel for how to engage with their followers. We will definitely be figuring out a monetization strategy.”
Do you think that Facebook will take the pop-up ads method, where it will appear throughout the appl itself, or whenever you use Facebook? More importantly is, how will monetization change the way we use Instagram, if at all? Monetization and ads seem to be the inevitable path that popular Web services take these days.
