An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. Following Ericsson’s decision to file a lawsuit against Samsung in November, which eventually resulted to a request to ban U.S. import on some products, the South Korean technology giant is now suing back the former. Samsung said on Wednesday that it has filed a complaint to the International Trade Commission accusing Ericsson of breaching seven of its patents. Samsung is also requesting a U.S. sales and import ban on a few of the Swedish company’s products.
In a statement, Samsung says, “We have sought to negotiate with Ericsson in good faith. However, Ericsson has proven unwilling to continue such negotiations by making unreasonable claims, which it is now trying to enforce in court.” Samsung also says that the products allegedly found to be infringing its patents included Ericsson’s telecommunications networking equipment, such as base stations. Ericsson has seen a huge drop in sales lately, particularly in its network unit sales which is down to 17 percent in Q3 this year. Now, the Swedish company is turning to the courts to keep its patent income.
