Tumblr Delivers Live Animated GIF For Times Square New Year’s Eve Event

Every year as folks gather at different places to usher in the New Year, there are some places which are far more iconic than the rest. Case in point, Times Square in New York City, where there would be plenty of fanfare and celebration going on all round, in addition to performances by musical artists, hourly countdowns to build up the anticipation, with the final midnight countdown that is accompanied by the famous Ball Drop. The thing is, not everyone is able to participate in such revelry, but fret not – Tumblr has worked out a deal with the Times Square Alliance and Livestream, allowing them to create a ‘Live-GIF’ experience for all the action that is going on at Times Square this New Year’s Eve.

A trio of talented GIF makers has been selected from Tumblr’s large community of bloggers, where they will work alongside the Livestream team to customize and create animated GIFs for the entire duration of the evening’s broadcast. These GIFs will be uploaded to GIFwich.com, which is Tumblr’s permanent home for live-GIF action.
