After wrapping up the year with its 2012 Year On Twitter, and launching a foray of updates that included photo filters, new profile updates, and the capability to download tweets, the insanely popular micro-blogging service is announcing today that it now has more than 200 million monthly active users. “There are now more than 200M monthly active @twitter users,” the company announced. “You are the pulse of the planet. We’re grateful for your ongoing support.” It is worth noting that Twitter hit the 100 million mark in September last year, after more than five years since its launch. Today’s news is definitely a sign that Twitter is growing at a much faster rate. Although the feat is still a long shot to Facebook’s more than a billion users, at least the numbers are roughly in line with LinkedIn’s and Google+’s numbers.
