huawei ascend w1Just the other day Huawei revealed that they would be launching an 8-core chipset, following in Samsung’s footsteps when the South Korean company announced their plans during CES. At that time we mentioned that Huawei also had a new phone for MWC 2013 and according to the reports, word has it that one of the phones Huawei will be launching is called the W2 and it will be the company’s second Windows Phone 8 handset, and supposedly a higher-end version of the Huawei Ascend W1. Assuming the rumors are accurate, the Ascend W2 will be a 7.7mm phone which compared to Android seems rather thick, but at 7.7mm it will make it the slimmest Windows Phone handset to date.

Other alleged specs of the Ascend W2 include a 4.5” HD display, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 2,800mAh battery and is expected to retail for $515, making it cheaper than both the Nokia Lumia 920 and the HTC Windows Phone 8X. If this is true and the phone does arrive stateside, it looks like those who find the Nokia Lumia 920 a tad chunky for their tastes and are in the market for something slimmer and cheaper, Huawei could be the answer to their problem. Either way we’ll be live at MWC 2013 which will be taking place towards the end of February, so be sure to check back with us then to see if the rumors pan out.
