HTC

Earlier this month we reported that HTC was working on two, one 7 inch and one 12 inch, Windows RT tablets. Bloomberg now reports that HTC has apparently cancelled the development of ‘large’ Windows RT tablet, presumably that means the 12 inch variant has been shelved. The reasons believed to be behind this move include lack of demand for large tablets and high costs associated with development of such a device. Nevertheless HTC is reportedly going ahead with the 7 inch Windows RT tablet that is likely to be released later this year, alongside a new 7 inch Android tablet.

We first heard about HTC entering the Windows RT tablet market back in December last year. Both tablets were rumored to be powered by 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processors with 2GB of RAM. The release date was expected to be 13th of October. There hasn’t been much talk about the new 7 inch Android powered tablet mentioned in this report, it will apparently launch with the 7 inch Windows RT tablet. While HTC may be seeing strong smartphone sales, its tablets have yet to take the market by storm. Perhaps these new offerings might change that.
