app-store-50-billionEarlier this month, Apple did their bit to advertise the fact that the Apple App Store was about to hit the 50 billion mark in terms of apps downloaded ever since it was mooted, and to push folks to touch that magical mark even faster, Apple dangled a carrot which comes in the form of a $10,000 App Store Gift Card. Well, it seems that the 50 billionth app has just been downloaded by a certain Brandon Ashmore from Mentor, Ohio, and of course he picked up the $10,000 App Store Gift Card with glee. Seriously, it could have been anyone really, so kudos to Brandon for having the rub of the green today.

What of Apple’s great rival in the mobile space, Google and their Android ecosystem? Google’s not too far behind, having recently announced that they are already at 48 billion apps installed – and counting. Of course, all these apps downloaded are legit ones, as illegally downloaded copies certainly do not count to the final tally. Here’s to the next 50 billion!
