Samsung Wallet App Finally Released For U.S.

The Samsung Wallet application was announced back at the Mobile World Congress 2013 in February. At first glance it looked like this app was quite similar to Apple’s Passbook app, and there’s no doubt that it is indeed. The tasks it performs are quite similar to the ones Passbook does, and much like it , Samsung Wallet is exclusive to the Korean manufacturer’s own smartphones. Three months down the road since its announcement, the app has now finally been made available in the U.S. and South Korea.

For now it seems like the US version of Samsung Wallet app can only handle barcoded membership cards, boarding passes, event tickets and coupons. The Korean version is said to support credit card information, which would enable payments through the smartphone after punching in a PIN or password once only. Support for membership cards, tickets and coupons is likely to be added to the Korean version soon. Available for free on Samsung Apps, the Wallet app is compatible with Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, Galaxy S2 HD LTE, Galaxy Note 10.1, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Note devices.
