5MXzBack in May we reported that Blackberry Messenger would be making its way onto iOS and Android this summer. This was in spite of all the denials and refutations that such a thing was happening, but we guess Blackberry decided that it would be a good idea. In any case this move will allow iOS and Android users to connect to their Blackberry-using friends, although in all fairness there are alternative messaging platforms that are available across all platforms, such as WhatsApp for example. In any case if you’re wondering when BBM would be available for iOS and Android, word on the street has it that the 27th of June might be a date you’ll want to mark down on your calendars. The folks at BBerryBlog have even posted a photo of what looks like BBM running on an iPhone, so we guess if it is real, it looks like the app is ready for a launch. Either way take it with a grain of salt for now, but check back with us on the 27th of June to see if this rumor pans out. So, anyone else excited by this?

Updated – According to Blackberry, this rumor is not true and they have released a statement saying so. “On May 14th, BlackBerry announced plans to make its ground-breaking mobile social network, BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), available to iOS and Android users this summer, subject to approval by the Apple App Store and Google Play.  While there have been reports that BBM will be available to iOS and Android on June 27th, this is not accurate. We will communicate an update as soon as we have an availability date to share.”
