There are gamers from all around the world who play MMORPGs, such as World of Warcraft which from my experience, has allowed me to interact with gamers from the US, the UK, Australia and various parts of Asia. However is there such a thing where there might be one region where MMOs might do better in? According to Take-Two Interactive’s chairman, Strauss Zelnick, he seems to think that Asia might be the place to go if the company were interested in launching an MMO of their own. Speaking during the Cowen and Company Technology, Media and Telecom Conference, Zelnick revealed Take-Two’s interest in launching their own MMO.
However instead of focusing on the western markets, such as the US market for instance, Zelnick believed that their MMO would have a higher rate of success if it were launched in Asia instead. According to Zelnick, “How many MMOs have been successful in the U.S.? Two. World of Warcraft and EverQuest. Kind of a bad slugging percentage.” We’re not sure if this is 100% true, but at the same time for those of you who have been following video games, you might have noticed the trend where many MMOs are being launched by developers in Asia more frequently than you would see in the West. What do you guys think? Do you agree with Zelnick’s belief that MMOs are more successful in Asia than in the West?
