asha501-hereThe Nokia Asha 501 might not be the latest and greatest handset out there, and neither is it one phone that would get the hearts and pulses of phone fans racing, but at the very least it has received the latest Nokia HERE maps update, where Nokia Asha 501 owners will now be able to enjoy search and accurate turn-by-turn directions. The HERE Maps app happens to be one of the Finnish phone manufacturer’s most popular software tools, and it is no wonder considering one gets to enjoy an offline maps navigation and viewing, which is suitable for those who tend to travel overseas and do not want to rely on their smartphones and an expensive roaming data plan when it comes to loading maps.

Right now, Nokia’s HERE Maps is available on the Windows Phone 8, Android and Firefox OS platforms, but to see it appear on an Asha device does point out the very real possibility that Nokia intends to fully back up its new emerging mobile platform. The Nokia Asha 501 happens to be the only handset that leverages the new Asha platform, which had the Series 40 mobile operating system as its base, and chances are looking good that Nokia will roll out newer handsets under the Asha umbrella to go up against the myriad of low-end Android smartphones that are flooding emerging markets.
