spot-gen3Some things are capable of withstanding the test of time, especially in terms of design, although there are moments when we wished that a refresh could be on the way. Case in point, the SPOT Gen3, where the name obviously gives the game away that this is the third generation device of its kind. The SPOT Gen3 is an outdoor beacon that certainly looks pretty much the same as the 2007 model, but just like a good book, one should not judge it according to its cover.

The third iteration of the SPOT Gen3 was specially designed to help those who love to go adventuring in the vast forests, or for folks who have been bitten by the wanderlust bug, to help their friends and loved ones know just where they are. Specially designed to be worn and used in places which are off the grid, the SPOT Gen3 will see the inclusion of unlimited tracking capability (where wearers can pre-set the device to send tracks every 5, 10, 30 or 60 minutes), motion activated tracking and a far longer battery life than before – we are talking about nearly double the length of time compared to its predecessors. The SPOT Gen3 will not come cheap, however, as it costs $149.95 a pop and will need to be accompanied by an annual subscription plan of $149.99 per year. [Product Page]
