Everquest, the MMORPG that captured the imagination of the world before World of Warcraft was conceived, was so addictive that some folks have even nicknamed it as “Evercrack” for obvious reasons. Well, the game has seen its fair share of “free to play” instances over the past few years, and the popularity of Everquest’s star had been on the wane for a long time already, so much so that no one talks about it much these days. Heck, even World of Warcraft has seen its subscriber numbers decline in recent memory. You can’t remain young (and popular) forever, you know? Perhaps watching the video of Everquest Next above might rekindle interest in this MMORPG franchise.

Everquest Next is said to be a reinvention by Sony Online Entertainment of the hugely popular MMORPG franchise, where it will be based on a fair number of creative and very interesting pillars. Technically, Everquest Next remains within the same (obviously fictional) universe as its predecessors, although you could say that this is an alternate reality of sorts, instead of taking the normal prequel or continuation route. Described as a “fundamental reimagining of the characters, lore and environments of the EverQuest universe”, the five pillars include Multi-Classing, Destructible Environments, Permanent Change, Emergent AI and A Life of Consequence.
