Last month rumors were circulating that Microsoft would be slashing the prices of its Surface RT tablets. Indeed it did, a couple of weeks ago the company announced that Surface RT prices were being cut by as much as 30 percent all around the globe. At that time there was no indication that the Surface Pro tablet would also see a price cut. The Verge now reports that Microsoft has confirmed to them a $100 price cut for both 64GB and 128GB Surface Pro tablets. The price cut will be in place for U.S., Hong Kong, Canada and China.

It remains to be seen if this price cut is permanent. As per the company’s statement, customers in the aforementioned markets will be able to pick up a Surface RT for $100 less between August 4th and August 29th. For all we know, Microsoft may extend the price cut and may even apply it in other markets as well. This may be viewed as a move to drive sales or to clear inventory. There have been rumors that the company is working on its next generation Surface tablets, but no one has any idea right now when they will be launched.
