Apple hasn’t said how many iPhone 5C units were pre-ordered on the first day. It has traditionally given out such information, this time it didn’t, which lead many to believe that perhaps the new “unapologetically plastic” iPhone didn’t see much consumer interest during the pre-order stage. On the other hand, an analyst estimates that the company may have received as many as 2.2 million pre-orders for the smartphone on the first day. The situation might be different across the pond, apparently pre-orders for the device have fallen short of expectations.
The U.K. is one of the initial 10 launch markets in which the new iPhones will be released tomorrow. The Guardian claims in a report that it has heard from sources within major U.K. carriers that pre-orders for iPhone 5C have been bleak. One source claims that the smartphone isn’t “setting the world on fire in terms of pre-orders,” and that people are waiting and seeing because never before has Apple released two new iPhones simultaneously. A source even went as far as to call iPhone 5C pre-orders “a big disappointment.” Apple hasn’t offered pre-orders for the iPhone 5S, the second smartphone it unveiled a week ago. Both new iPhones will be released tomorrow to the public.
