japan-fukushima-ice-wall

It was two years ago when Japan experienced a terrible earthquake and tsunami that ravaged parts of the region as well as causing the Fukushima nuclear power plant to have a meltdown, which the country is still trying to contain to this day. Recently, the Japanese government has been deliberating on what exactly they should do to try to contain the continuous leak, and after weeks of deliberation, they’ve come to a decision. Build a giant wall of ice underground.

A total of 400 tons of radioactive groundwater has been leaking out from the Fukushima nuclear power plant on a daily basis, which has resulted in the Japanese government to make a radical decision such as building a giant ice wall. The way the ice wall will work is by pumping coolant through Fukushima’s underground pipes to freeze the soil around the building. This would then hopefully create a ground that’s completely frozen, and is expected to stop the radioactive leaks.

Unfortunately, it looks like taxpayers will be footing the bill for this radical plan, which we’re sure they’ll be more than happy to pay for considering how much devastation they’ve already been through as a result of the earthquake and tsunami.
