xbox-one-hands-on-review-02The Xbox 360 was released back in 2005 and according to Microsoft, will continue to see support for at least another 3 years, giving the product a lifecycle of about 11 years. Microsoft has planned something similar for the Xbox One and according to Corporate VP, Phil Harrison, the company has planned a decade-long lifecycle for their upcoming console, although Harrison’s words were more flowery, calling it a “more than 10-year journey”.

According to Harrison, “For us, it’s not just about the launch date. It is about the start of the journey where the console will be improved and will be adapted and changed.” Harrison went on to remind us that Microsoft has about 300,000 dedicated servers just for the Xbox One to help support and accelerate multiplayer game, as well as other online services that the console could offer in the future, along with cloud processing and artificial intelligence. It will be interesting to see what’s in store for us in the future 10 years from now. An NVIDIA executive believes that consoles will no longer be able to outpace PCs in terms of graphics, so it will definitely be interesting to see what happens to console gaming a decade from now.
