Apple hasn’t revealed the official first day pre-order figures for iPhone 5C as yet, the company has traditionally sent out a PR telling everyone how many units were pre-ordered in the first day alone. Some believe that Apple’s silence is due to weak demand. It unveiled two new iPhones last week and started accepting pre-orders for only one of those models, the iPhone 5S was left out of the fray apparently due to supply constraints. Despite all of the claims of weak demand, Citi analyst Glen Yeung predicts that Apple might have clinched over 2.2 million pre-orders for the iPhone 5C.
This figure is slightly higher than 2 million units of the iPhone 5 that were pre-ordered within the first day, last year. However, it is worth noting that the analyst’s predicted figure contains numbers from China, Hong Kong and DoCoMo in Japan, all of which were not part of the iPhone 5’s initial roll out. Apple will release both new iPhones on September 20th. Yeung predicts that during the entire weekend, as many as 7.75 million units of both smartphones might be sold in the ten markets they’re initially being launched in. The iPhone 5C is said to account for more than 4.5 million units alone.
