P1040367-640x480We’re sure many of you guys have played games and wanted to see how well you ranked on Apple’s leaderboards, Game Center. Unfortunately in some cases, despite how well you think you’ve done, the top scores are usually pretty insane and look impossible to achieve, let alone beat. While some scores are legit, chances are those ridiculous numbers you are looking at are courtesy of cheaters who have pretty much ruined Game Center’s leaderboard for everyone, but now Apple is trying to do something about it by giving developers access to Game Center.

According to an announcement made by Apple through its Developer Center, “You can now view and manage the top 100 scores and usernames for all of your Game Center leaderboards […] Protect your legitimate players by signing in to iTunes Connect to delete fake scores or block players that post fake scores. You can also restore scores and players within the same time period.”

Of course the kicker here is that developers will need to manually maintain Game Center meaning that the consistency of catching and removing cheaters from the leaderboards might not be as frequent as one might think. Not to mention smaller or indie developers might not necessarily have the time or resources to regularly maintain Game Center by themselves. However it is still a good move by Apple and hopefully in the future a more manageable method can be devised.
