cnc-generalsBack in 2012, EA announced Command & Conquer: Generals 2, the sequel to the highly acclaimed Command & Conquer: Generals. It was revealed that the game would be taking the free-to-play route and has been in an alpha state for about a year now. Unfortunately if Generals 2 is a new real-time strategy (RTS) game that you’re looking forward to, you’d be out of luck as EA has since cancelled the game.

According to Victory Studios, the developer behind the title, they wrote on the Command & Conquer website, “That is why, after much difficult deliberation, we have decided to cease production of this version of the game. Although we deeply respect the great work done by our talented team, ultimately it’s about getting you the game you expect and deserve. Over the next 10 days we will be refunding any and all money spent in the alpha. If you have a question about your refund, please contact help.ea.com.”

According to the post, it seems that the reason they have decided to cancel the game is because based on feedback, the game was not headed in the right direction, or so they claim. Employees (or former employees) of the studio have tweeted that the studio is actually being shut down, hence the cancellation of the game (or is it the other way around?). In any case this is not the first time the Command & Conquer series has been cancelled and will definitely not be the last, so for those who were looking forward to the game, you will be waiting a lot longer now. Anyone else bummed out by this?
