Microsoft announced the new Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablets last month and even started taking pre-orders, but it is yet to release the new tablets to the public. The official release date is October 22nd and to celebrate the launch of Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2, the company will be holding midnight launch events in 10 of its retail stores across the country. Those who haven’t put in their pre-orders will be able to walk in and pick up a new Surface tablet at midnight, the launch festivities will actually kick off at 10 pm, October 21st, in the respective time zones.

The company has also tapped Pitbull, the singer, to perform at its store in Orlando, Florida the next morning. Each of the participating 10 stores will host the Surface Challenge, which will basically be a series of interactive games that customers can take part in. They’ll also have the chance to be “whisked away” to the Orlando store to see Pitbull perform. Those who want to take part in the festivities are encouraged to join in advance at the official Microsoft Store Facebook page. They’ll also have the chance to win various other prizes apart from being the first ones to lay hands on the new Surface tablets. Microsoft’s remaining more than 70 retail stores will hold their own events and giveaways throughout the month to celebrate the launch. The list of 10 participating Microsoft stores is available at the company’s website.
