cyanogenmodCyanogenMod started off as a custom ROM for Android smartphones where smartphone users could install the ROM if they did not like the user interface offered to them by their smartphone OEM. CyanogenMod has since grown and last we heard, it would come preinstalled on devices like the Oppo N1, but now according to the rumors, it seems that coming preinstalled on a device is not enough and that Cyanogen Inc. is looking to build their own smartphone, controlling both the hardware and software ends.

According to Phandroid’s sources, this mysterious CyanogenMod phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon “8974AC” processor, suggesting that it is a slight improvement over the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 family that has been making its round in high-end smartphones this year. Unlike the Oppo N1, this device will be designed for CyanogenMod in mind, as opposed to merely running the ROM. It has been speculated that perhaps the phone will be made by Chinese company, Gionee, especially since the company has a device known as the ELIFE E7 which runs the Qualcomm 8974AC chipset.

This is speculation at this point in time, and it is unknown as to what the phone will look like or what the rest of the specs are, but what do you guys think? Is a phone designed by Cyanogen and running CyanogenMod the Android phone of your dreams?
