logo_facebook-rgb-7inch2.png.648x0_q90_replace_alphaFacebook, the social network giant, has just teamed up with GSMA, where the former has promised to be an ‘active’ member of wireless trade group. This particular move has signaled Facebook’s intentions to be a whole lot more entrenched in the world of mobile devices, not to mention to have a say when it comes to the standards and policy issues that currently face both wireless carriers and vendors.

Dan Rose, vice president of partnerships at Facebook, said, “Joining GSMA reflects our focus on mobile and our continued desire to work closely and collaboratively with partners in the industry, and we look forward to playing an active role as a member.” Will this particular membership also mean that Facebook will eventually be a whole lot more involved at Mobile World Congress? Perhaps, and only time will tell when MWC kicks off early in February next year. Right now, Facebook does have a whole lot of interest in the mobile front, since most folks already own a smartphone and/or a tablet which they use to check their social network accounts as well as keep in touch with one another. To wield a greater degree of influence in this particular market might also mean that Facebook is geared for additional success down the road.
