Motorola announced the first flagship smartphone it created as a Google company, Moto X, back in August. On August 29th, the largest U.S. mobile carrier started offering it for $199.99 on contract. Initially, the carriers which offered the Moto X sold it for $199.99 with a two year contract. Soon after its release, it was rumored that the price would be dropped to $99.99 around the holiday season, and we’ve already seen AT&T and Sprint slash their prices. Verizon today followed suit, it now offers the Moto X for $99.99 with a two year contract, both online and in its retail stores across the country.
It was also rumored recently that Moto Maker will be opened up for Verizon subscribers this month, but so far no confirmation has been received. If you’ve been holding out on purchasing a Moto X particularly on Verizon, now is the time to make your move. Motorola is going to announce its low-end Moto X variant, the Moto G, on November 13th. It remains to be seen if Verizon is going to carry that device. Seeing as how its expected to be much more affordable than the flagship Moto X, both variants probably won’t be offered for $99 on contract. Its too soon to say for sure right now though.
