The Xbox One launch in North America is just around the corner, consoles are set to start shipping tomorrow, November 22nd, 2013. There’s yet another feature that the console is going to be missing on launch day, but Microsoft says that it will add the feature through a future update. It has already been confirmed that Xbox One won’t support 3D Blu-rays at launch and that Twitch instantaneous gaming screening will also not work immediately after launch.

The company confirms that it will add full Dolby Digital audio via digital optical in a future update, for now both will not be present immediately on and after launch day. At this point in time, the optical connection can only deliver stereo sound however when Dolby Digital goes live, users will be able to make use of 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound via digital optical. Albert Penello, director of Xbox product planning, says it is his understand that Dolby-only headsets work with the console, but only setero audio will be passed through. He says that the understands this “inconvenience” and that Dolby Digital will be coming post launch. Given the fact that no time frame has been provided for this update, the best Xbox One owners can do is wait and watch.
