chinamobileApple signing a deal with China Mobile would be the equivalent of Apple signing a deal with NTT DOCOMO, as China Mobile is China’s largest carrier at the moment with 740 million subscribers. According to a report last week, that certainly seemed like the case, but as it turns out, it seems that The Wall Street journal might have been ahead of themselves as there have been reports suggesting that the deal is still being negotiated, as opposed to having been finalized as what the earlier report would have suggested. This has since been confirmed by Reuters who posted a quote from a China Mobile spokesperson who claimed that they are “still negotiating with Apple, but for now we have nothing new to announce.”

Either way it looks like there is a good chance that the deal could be finalized as some have speculated that perhaps the truth was being suppressed for strategic reasons. In any case this deal with China Mobile is a pretty big one for Apple, because even if they are able to tap into just 10% of China Mobile’s subscribers, that’s an additional whopping 74 million new customers that they would be able to sign on board. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for a confirmation, so be sure to check back with us soon for the details!
