Earlier this year, it was revealed that Ubisoft planned to do yearly releases of its Assassin’s Creed franchise. While some criticized the move, we’re sure that fans of the franchise wouldn’t mind having a new title to play every year, while enjoying DLCs in the meantime to keep themselves entertained. Well for those wondering what’s in store for the next game, Assassin’s Creed 5, well you might just have to play the Freedom Cry DLC to learn more.

Ubisoft has recently released a multiplayer DLC for the game called Blackbeard’s Wrath, but Freedom Cry will focus more on the single player aspect of the game, and according Ubisoft who spoke to Eurogamer, the DLC will also contain clues to the next game, so if you’re particularly eagle-eyed, perhaps you’ll want to keep your eyes extra peeled during the game. Freedom Cry will focus on Adewale, Edward Kenway’s first mate, and will be played from the perspective of 15 years after the main game.

According to creative director, Wesley Pincombe, “We wanted to continue the story of Black Flag in the DLC. Aside from the fantasy stuff we were looking at different types of assassins – we were looking at Mary Reade and Duncan Walpole to figure out their origin stories but Adewalé really had a strong presence on screen.” If you have a couple of minutes to spare, you can watch the trailer for the upcoming DLC in the video above.
