samsung-smartphone-gamepadEarlier this year we managed to take a look at Samsung’s Galaxy S4’s lineup of accessories, amongst which was a gamepad designed for Samsung’s range of Android smartphones. At that time the gamepad’s design wasn’t much to look at. It looked very plasticky and its colored buttons reminded us of the Xbox’s own controller and if you were hoping that Samsung would do something about it, you’re in luck as Samsung has since announced the release of the gamepad for the European market. As you can see in the photo above, the gamepad has been given a much-needed redesign.

The gamepad, as you can see in the image above, looks vastly different from the original design we saw earlier this year and looks a lot more sleek, but then again what we saw earlier this year was a prototype, so we guess it was not the final design. The new gamepad will sport a rechargeable battery pack and will be able to play nicely with a range of devices ranging from 4” up to 6.3” (which we can only assume is for the Galaxy Mega 6.3). The gamepad will pair with devices either using Bluetooth or NFC technology and will require devices to run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at least.

The gamepad is also expected to be compatible with at least 35 titles which includes the likes of Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Prince of Persia: The Shadow and the Flame. No word on pricing yet nor North American availability, but hopefully we will learn more soon.
