Well, Crossfire from Tencent took the free-to-play route, and it pulled in nearly $1 billion in 2013 alone.

This particular shooter’s achievement means that it has overtaken two behemoths in our era – League of Legends and World of Warcraft in terms of revenue in 2013 alone, at least according to Super Data Research. Raking in $950 million in total, it is surely worth checking out if you are interested to see what all the fuss is about. As for the rest of the Top 10 most popular free-to-play titles, they hail from the likes of Riot Games, Nexon, Electronic Arts and Blizzard.
