Microsoft is yet to announce its new CEO, and now its believed that the company won’t just announce Ballmer’s successor. Recent rumors suggest that Ballmer may give up his seat on the board, and that the board is considering replacing chairman Bill Gates, who also happens to be Microsoft’s co-founder and first CEO. While the company hasn’t confirmed anything as yet, Bloomberg reports that even if he’s replaced as chairman, Gates will remain involved in product development at Redmond, but will reduce focus on administration matters.

Citing people with knowledge of the matter, the publication claims to have heard that Gates will continue to work at Microsoft at least one day a week. As far as the new Microsoft CEO is concerned, chatter indicates that Satya Nadella has a pretty good chance of being given Ballmer’s job. At Microsoft since 1992, Nadella currently heads its enterprise and cloud services division. Bill Gates reportedly “championed” Nadella’s candidacy for the CEO post during the deliberation process, in which the company is believed to have considered potential candidates including but not limited to CEOs of Nokia, Ford and Ericsson. Rumor has it that Microsoft is going to make an announcement about these changes within the next couple of weeks.
