The Walt Disney Studios today released a free iOS app called Disney Movies Anywhere. This iTunes integrated app allows users to stream digital Disney, Pixar and Marvel movies they have already purchased and also lets them browse through a catalog to buy new ones. Disney Movies Anywhere is also available on the web. The app has only been released for iOS devices now and its compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. It hasn’t said if and when an app for Android will be released.

In order to entice people to use this new service, Disney is offering a free digital copy of The Incredibles to any and all users who download the app and link it with their iTunes account. Users will be able to get digital copies of the Disney, Pixar and Marvel movies they own on DVD and Blu-ray by entering a code that can be found on the packaging. The app also has decent parental controls, parents will be able to use MPAA ratings in order to control which movies their children can watch on a device. Disney hasn’t positioned this app as a competitor to iTunes, infact iTunes actually works as its retail backend. This app basically makes it easier for users to access their pre-owned Disney movies in one place, and also provides them with a dedicated channel to browse through and possibly even purchase new ones.
